How to write a resume

A good resume will probably get you the job of your dreams. A great resume on the other hand will be sure to get you the job and dozen more offers from companies. Our aim is to write a great resume, not only a good one. Here are some tips on how to wow your prospective employer.

1. Choose a professional looking picture.

First impressions last, right? A good way to start your resume is a photograph placed at the top. Pick a recent picture of yourself, preferably one wearing corporate suit. If you don’t have one in this attire, it is a must that you at least wear a shirt with a collar.

2. Place a strong, well-defined objective.

Next to your name, you should place your general objectives in life or specific objectives for the position you are applying for. It’s advisable to be goal-oriented so tailor-made your objectives to the specific job you are applying for. Be concise and realistic to give the employers an idea of who you are and what you need from them.

3. Start with the most important things.

Employers would usually look for your work experience first since they would want a person with previous and related experience for the position. If you are fresh out of school, highlight your education. Write any honors you may have received in school. If you have attended seminars that could be pertinent to the job or even part-time work while studying, be sure to include them in your resume. Employers would prefer a hard-working employee.

4. Emphasize your contact details.

You can place them in a strategic place, but most of us place them at the bottom, if you do, write them in bold letters. Include all your contact numbers, your email address and your physical address.

5. Impressive references.

Be sure that the persons you place as reference are credible and inform them beforehand that they are your reference people so they’ll be prepared to say something brilliant about you when your potential employer calls.
