Post interview follow-up
The Advantage of a Post Interview Follow-Up
Sometimes, it can be very discouraging for the applicant to hear the words: thank you for coming or we’ll let you know as soon as we can. Some would probably give up upon hearing the words: don’t call us, we’ll call you.
These are normal words to hear from interviewers. A job applicant, aside from being prepared for the interview, must also be prepared for possible rejection. However, all is not lost. Even with discouraging words, one should always remember common courtesy.
This will at least show the employer that you are a professional person and you don’t have any hard feelings towards them. Who knows, this might even turn out good for you and you might be hired for the position.
A good interview follow-up could be done through the use of a thank you note to the employer. A more convenient method would be through email. A short note saying your gratitude for the opportunity and time spent by the employer for you would be sufficient.
The common mistake that most people do is to write a lengthy thank you messages that sometimes diverge to imploring pleas to the employer that in the end make them look and sound desperate. This should be avoided at all costs. This will only ruin your chances of getting the job.
Thank you messages as post interview follow-up could also be your opportunity to restate your desire for the job. The fact alone that you write a thank you note is a message to the employer that you want the job. Interview follow-up is a practice not done by almost a third of applicants and a simple follow-up letter or email could be your edge over the other candidates. Common courtesy, in most cases, always pays off.
